| | | This is Lin Sutherland’s journey to look for the planet’s tallest trees on the island of Tasmania. Unfortunately she is not alone in this search - it’s a race against the massive and relentless wood chipping industry. Can Lin locate these ‘living legends’ before the woodcutters bring them down? Our forests depend on the cycle of growth, decay and renewal for survival but this is now threatened by logging, mining and cattle grazing. Lin crosses paths with a number of unique characters who become equally engaged in her search for the ‘giants’. The mood changes within the expedition however when Lin realises that the giant trees are under threat of destruction by logging for the wood chip industry. Mass destruction of great tracks of forests is what greets these modern day explorers as they follow tips, myths and gossip about sightings of giant trees. Huge stumps are sometimes all that remain after centuries of growth. Land of the Giants captures Tasmania’s most rugged, remote and awe inspiring wilderness areas, unmatched for beauty anywhere in the world. Lin Sutherland finds the pristine heart and soul of the ancient forests of her grandfather’s stories.
