| This four-DVD set examines mankind’s relationship through history with fresh water. Each programme considers a different aspect of the relationship. The viewer learns how our development was influenced by water-related factors and becomes conscious that no society can survive for as much as day without access to fresh water. DVD 1 – The struggle for our daily water. This episode visits communities around the world to look at their challenge through history to access sufficient water to survive and develop. Locations include the Himalayas, southern Ethiopia, the Nile valley, the western United States and Mexico City. DVD 2 – Historic watersheds. This episode highlights significant events in the world’s water history and considers their impact. It covers the building of the Emperor’s Canal in China, the English canal network, the Three Gorges Dam in China and the differing uses over time of Norway’s fast-flowing rivers and waterfalls. DVD 3 – Water to water. This episode is devoted to water's religious significance through history. It follows in the footsteps of the Israelites from Jordan to Jericho, one of the first organized settlements in the world to be built around a source of water. The importance of water in Islam is discussed. There are scenes from Hinduism's holy river the Ganges, including the funeral pyres on the ghats that line its banks. The programme also looks at the history of the bath from Roman times to hydrotherapy in modern Germany. DVD 4 – The battle for water. It is a common view that future wars will be fought over water. This episode examines historic water-related flash-points including Suez, Lake Tana and Israel. It also visits the world’s oldest functioning court of justice – a water-sharing tribunal in rural Spain
