| This is the story of Jews sheltered in occupied Holland during WW2. Those who lived through it recount what it was like to face systematic isolation and persecution. Children at the time, they witnessed their families and friends being arrested and dragged away, never to be seen again. Hitler’s plan to eliminate an entire race might have succeeded were it not for the ordinary people who risked their lives to shelter them. Over 100,000 Dutch Jews died during the Holocaust. Families were shattered and most were left homeless. Hidden Heroes takes viewers to the Netherlands where a number of Dutch Jews relive the terrifying ordeal they experienced at the hands of the occupying forces and provide accounts of the daring "hidden heroes" who risked their lives to shelter and save them. The Dutch Resistance provided safe houses for children, fed the nearly 400,000 Jews in hiding, aided in bombing Nazi trains and traded information with Nazis to save others. Beginning with Germany's invasion of Holland in 1940, Hidden Heroes is a compelling story of unimaginable courage. The program contains interviews with Dutch Resistance historians, movement members and organisers as well as survivors. Each subject paints a vivid portrait of the horror of the Holocaust.
