Gemma would like another child, but she wants to be cured first. The treatment for Hepatitis C has unpleasant side effects and the outcome is uncertain.
How will Gemma’s friends and family respond to her having the disease? How does she feel about being one of the lucky 3,000 when there are half a million others, untreated? Will she be able to cope with the side effects of the treatment and will it work?
Hepatitis C, a blood-borne virus that attacks the liver, is a health time bomb. Hundreds of thousands of people suffer from it, but most are unaware. Unless something is done, large numbers will die.
During the filming Gemma also embarks on an investigation into the discrimination and prejudice against those who suffer from the disease, the refusal of politicians and many health professionals to take the issue seriously and the potential scale of the resulting health problem.

Here is what health service professionals have said about Louis, Me & Hepatitis C:
“I am a Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialist in Salisbury and was very pleased to stumble across the film being shown on the Community Channel on Virgin. As the nurse supporting people on treatment, I found it a fascinating insight into the day to day struggle of being on treatment even though I am more aware than most of how difficult it is. I found it very moving and I feel compelled to share the story and hope to use it as a training resource.”

“One thing that has come up again and again at Service User Reference Group meetings is the importance of raising awareness of blood-borne viruses and Hepatitis C in particular. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for this occasion to bring people together, dispel myths and share information. I wish you every success in reaching your target of a quarter of a million people, we will be doing are bit and we’ll let you know how we get on!”

“We, as a team at CDIP, just wanted to say a big thank you for allowing us to be part of today's raising awareness day. Following our team meeting, we had 12 people able to stay and view the dvd. The feedback was that it was a good investment of time and that the educational and emotional message had sound reminders of what those with Hep C and their loved ones are dealing with as well as what we, as a nation, should be paying attention to. Thank you for your time, energy and real personal investment into this project.”
Team Administrator, CDIP -Southern Team

“I just wanted to say thank you for the DVD you sent us. We showed it this week in our Torquay and Plymouth offices. In total, we had about 25 -30 people watch the film from a range of agencies, - the Primary Care Trusts, Social Services, Youth workers, leaving care teams, Gay Men's Health workers etc. The film was received really well, and many people were quite moved by your story, and left feeling motivated to act as a source of awareness and support too.”
