| The future of water is the future of humankind. How water will run in our societies will determine the future of our environment, power relations, the balance between rich and poor, war and peace and the destinies of countries and continents. These are the issues raised in "The Future of Water". With bang up-to-date footage from 25 countries and its basis in scientific material, the documentary presents an original and comprehensive narrative of the challenges societies will face in relation to our most precious resource. In episode 1 we visit some the biggest current water engineering projects, including Egypt’s giant Mubarak Pumping Station, Russia’s new canal that will channel water 2,500 km from Siberian to central Asian and China’s plans to head off its looming water crisis by redrawing its water map.
