| Mars: Of all the planets in our solar system, Mars has the environment most similar to Earth. This programme looks at the results of man’s missions to Mars and the technology employed by NASA to search for water there. River: Lakes and rivers constitute only one percent of the Earth’s water. Their fresh water is vital to all land-based life. Population pressures are now putting all major waterways under stress. This programme analyses the issues. Wilderness: Some places have survived untouched by human influence because they are too harsh to be inhabited. High in the Himalayas, Indian’s Valley of Flowers National Park is one of those and is protected as a World Heritage site. The last great wilderness is Antarctica, which belongs to no country and is protected from exploitation by its sub-zero climate.
